Hysteric Empress (Japanese: ヒステリックエンプレス, Hepburn: Hisuterikkuenpuresu?) [Japanese name: Queen of Tsuguoka] is one of the final bosses from Darius Gaiden. It is shaped after a Japanese Spider Crab (Macrocheira kaempferi).

Darius Odyssey Guidebook Bio[]

  • Name: Hysteric Empress
  • Motif: Japanese Spider Crab
  • Type: Large base-defense battleship
  • Size: 121.49 m / 398.6 ft
  • Zone: X (Giant Fortress)
  • Weapon: Highly concentrated energy bubbles (mouth), etc.

A large battleship that protects Belsar's fortress built deep inside planet Darius. In addition to the large number of weapons built into its body, enemies are overwhelmed by the deadly attacks done with its gigantic body itself.

Gameplay[]

Hysteric Empress's initial attack is to spit slow moving liquid metal projectiles all over the screen. These projectiles will split in two when shot. After doing this a few times it will stop and fire both a barrage of lasers in the player's direction, though these will only cover 180 degrees above the boss, and yellow bending lasers which home onto the player. Once the boss stops firing it will jump off the screen and fall down above the player. Once the boss comes down it will try putting one of its claws in place, during which time it won't attack.

After taking enough damage the boss will change its pattern, firing the yellow beams while dropping a large amount of eggs on the floor. The eggs will eclode into tiny crab robots which fire the liquid projectiles at the player. The boss will then fire the liquid projectiles while moving to the center of the screen, where it will accumulate liquid projectiles on its arms then spread them all at once in all directions. It will alternate between these attacks until its destroyed.

Trivia[]

  • Hysteric Empress is not completely defeated due to her body appearing from under the clouds in the ending.
